Designing with daylight: where to begin.
Orientation, views and the details that shape a lighter space.

Follow the light
Start by watching how sunlight moves through the space. Where is the morning light? Which rooms become bright in the afternoon? The position and size of an opening influence the character of the room throughout the day.
Choose the view
A large opening does more than admit daylight. It frames something. Consider the outlook from a dining chair, a kitchen worktop or a favourite seat. The best position may be the one that makes an everyday moment feel different.
Balance light and comfort
Discuss orientation, glazing specification, shading and ventilation together. Solar control is one part of a broader design conversation, and the appropriate solution depends on the building and its use.
Think about the junction
The relationship between glass, floor, wall and ceiling determines how an opening reads. Resolve these details early with your design team, then confirm practical requirements during survey and specification.
